Bewyse van ons bosluistaxi

Die koei is in die vleiland/kamp ingejaag vir 3 dae met die doel om bosluise op te tel. Soos
duidelik in die illustrasie te sien is, het sy ‘n dansrok gekry wat, alhoewel dit haar eer
gekrenk het, geen fisiese beserings hoegenaamd veroorsaak het nie.


Die water in haar krip is om 13:00 met die tablette gedoseer. Om 08:00 die volgende
oggend, presies 19 ure later, is Dag 1 se bosluise geoes sonder om die dansrok te
verwyder. Oor die volgende twee dae is hierdie proses herhaal.


Die bosluis-oes was as volg:
Dag 1 – 221 dooie bosluise
Dag 2 – 204 dooie bosluise
Dag 3 – 234 dooie bosluise

‘n Totaal van 659 dooie bosluise is vanaf een koei geoes

na ‘n toetsperiode van slegs drie dae!

Brommer-aanval

Hierdie skaap is in die veld opgemerk, so erg beseer na ‘n brommer-aanval dat ons nie
gedink het sy sal oorleef nie. Ons het haar huis toe geneem en 1 Eko Waterkrip
Doseringstablet in haar keel afgedruk. Twee ure later kon sy self opstaan en waterkrip toe
loop om te suip.

Foto 2 toon ‘n oop vleiswond wat nie deur enige ander middel behandel is nie. Na drie ure
kon ons geen parasiet of brommer op die wond vind nie, aangesien die vleis te vrank was
na hulle smaak.

Foto’s 3 en 4 bevestig hierdie vinnige herstel, aangesien inwendige en uitwendige
genesing kon plaasvind weens die feit dat die tablette 18 van die 23 aminosure bevat wat
benodig word vir gesonde ligaamselle.

Na slegs ‘n paar dae was die tekens van herstel duidelik sigbaar. Die tablette maak buite
en binne gesond.

Hier kan een van die brommer-broeiplekke duidelik gesien word. By nadere ondersoek is
dit egter duidelik dat al die brommers en larwes op die broeiplekke reeds dood is.

Hierdie skaap se miskanaal was so erg beskadig dat sy vier dae lank nie kon mis nie.
Nadat die dosis toegedien is, moes die parasiete ‘n ander ontsnaproete vind. Hulle verlaat
die skaap toe deur die dermkanaal, vleis, rugspiere en vel, en kry ‘n laaste rusplek op die
rug in haar wol.

Voordele

Uit hierdie inligting is dit duidelik dat Eko Waterkrip Doseringstablette ‘n onontbeerlike
produk vir die boer is. Benewens die bogenoemde nuttige gebruike, het dit ook die
volgende voordele:
 Geen intensiewe arbeid nie – een persoon bestuur die weeklikse doserings.
 Dit is geskik vir alle huis- en plaasdiere, asook voëls.
 Wilde diere en voëls word ook nou behandel, want hulle suip dikwels by die
plaasdiere se waterkrippe.
 Alle eksperimente wat uitgevoer is, toon ‘n verbetering van 12-15% in die diere se
toestand, sowel as gewigstoename.

Dosering Metodes:

1. Los weekliks 4 tablette op in ‘n 25 Liter waterkrip, elke 8ste dag.
2. NOODGEVAL: Gooi 1 tablet direk in dier se keel af, met ‘n bietjie water agterna
3. Troeteldiere: Los 4 tablette op in ‘n 25 Liter waterkan en skep daagliks in hul
waterbakke

ONS AANBEVELING IS:
100 tablette per 20 groot vee eenhede per maand.
1 groot vee eenheid is gelykstaande aan 5 skaap

EKO water trough tablets

Anthelmintic resistance is a common occurrence so the Mohair industry is continually looking at roundworm management and the benefits of alternative treatments.

Thank you to Francois Froehlich of the farm Prospect for assisting with this study.

EKO water trough tablets are used in livestock and poultry to assist in improving nutrient utilisation, intestinal health, immune response and growth performance. Registered V33335 Act 36/47.

EKO water trough tablets contains Acemannan.

Acemannan is derived from the plant Aloe vera (Barbadensis milleri).

The reported range of biological effects of acemannan includes:

  • stimulation of the production of IL-1a, TNF-a, IL-6, prostoglandin E2by macrophages
  • enhanced macrophage phagocytosis
  • induction of tumour cell apoptosis or necrosis.

 

Dosage advised by manufacturer

  • Clean trough.
  • Use a plastic bottle (300ml). Drill 8mm holes (aprox 4) in the bottle.
  • Add 4 tablets for every 25 litres of trough volume into bottle and close lid
  • Tie bottle to ball valve. The bottle must remain submerged.
  • REPEAT WEEKLY

Costs:

100 tablets cost in the region of R540. Suggested that 100 small stock units require 16 tabs a week.

Costs less than R1 a week per goat.

 

Objective of Field study

This field study was done to determine the effect of EKO water trough tablets (Containing Acemannan,  unspecified amount) on the roundworm population of weaned Angora kids (6 months old) by doing a FECRT (Faecal egg count reduction test).

Method

  • Faecal samples were taken from 14 Angora goat kids (day 0) before starting the treatment
  • 4 EKO water tough tablets were added to 25 litres of drinking water in a clean container. No other water source was available. The 25 litres were replaced daily with 4 tablets. (volume of water consumed daily)
  • Faecal samples were taken every 7 days for FEC (faecal egg counts). 0,7,14,21

Conclusion:

EKO Water Trough tablets containing Acemannan  (derived from the plant Aloe vera – Barbadensis milleri) has an impact on roundworms (Strongyles) and reduced the faecal egg counts over the duration of the study (26 days) in Angora goat weaned kids.

The study was stopped on welfare grounds as clinical condition and faecal egg counts required further intervention – the group were treated with a registered Anthelmintic.

The product may serve as:

  1. Aid in control of roundworm population, reducing faecal egg production while allowing exposure to develop some immune response.
  2. Aid in reducing the roundworm egg/larvae contamination of the pasture over time.
  3. Reduce the dependence on and the use of Anthelmintic treatments, so reduce anthelmintic resistance.
  4. Use in combination with Anthelmintic doses when monitoring faecal egg counts and practising Targeted Selective Treatment (TST) https://www.angoras.co.za/article/targeted-selective-treatment-tst#363

This is a similar study to one by Mohair SA using a commercial Aloe Ferox product. Then it reduced the rate of increase of the faecal egg count (but did not reduce the levels). EKO water trough tablets can be used as aid in the control of roundworms and long term to help reduce contamination of the pasture with Angora goat weaned kids.

Faecal egg counts must still be closely monitored while using the product.
